Omeruo for Chelsea medical

Kenneth Omeruo having Chelsea medical

Posted: 2 August 2013 Time: 01:26 pm

Kenneth Omeruo is due to undergo a medical at English Premier League side Chelsea on Friday.

Do you think Omeruo can make it at Chelsea? Have your say on our Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/KickOffNigeria

The Nigeria defender left Nigeria for London on Thursday after being granted a work permit by the British Home Office.

The trip was almost skuppered by a delay in issuing his documentation at the British High Commission in Abuja but it was all sorted on time for him to depart late Thursday night.

However, he will be unable to join the rest of the Chelsea squad as there was no time for him to apply for a US visa.

It is not yet clear if Chelsea intends to keep the Nigeria for the current season, or if he will be farmed out on loan again.

But the club's insistence on securing a work permit for him means he might stay in England, even if not at Chelsea.

Gbamest Gbam ! I still believe that if Omeruo played for the entire duration of Spain Vs Nigeria, the result might have been different. It was a timely-tackle on Fabregas that led to his injury at the Confederation Cup. Keeping Drogba,Cavani,Suarez e.t.c quite is a difficult task. In fact I remember one interception he made against Cavani, the way he dispossessed him off the ball with adequate composure was awesome.

I think they are similar to the defensive partnership of Okechukwu and Chidi Nwanu ( USA '94) = Berlin wall.
Kenneth 'Nesta' Omeruo, no-nonsense and ruthless defender.
Godfry 'immense skills' Obo-fantastic-abona and Kenneth 'Nesta' Omeruo = Zuma Rock (Niger State/Abuja).

Good-luck to Omeruo.

@Me,myself and I, That's a rib-cracking post. Very innovative. Pidgin na our way nah.

While we all celebrate Omeruo's exploits, it is disheartening to note that while he is on paper 19years old, one of his brothers who plays for Sunshine Stars by name Benjamin Josiah, has finished NYSC as pointed out on Supersport website.

Supersuport interviewed Josiah and it worries my heart that Obuh succeeded again to give us an old man for an U-17 and U-20. Time will tell. As much as I like him as a person but it is painful and saddening that age cheating has caught up with us.

Even if I don't raise this issue today, somebody will point out the Josiah guy one day either from Nigeria or from South Africa. Why did it take so long to discover Omeruo when he was much younger. I sob

I'm happy for Omeruo but I'm not sure if he should stay at Chelsea this season. I just don't trust Mourinho will let him play regularly. I have the same worry for Moses and Mikel. I would just like to see them play regularly where ever they play. They are all great players.

@Coache, i can't remember Josiah saying that he is the younger brother of Kenneth. He just said he is one of the Omeruos. He may even be extended family member. I know that the younger brother play for one of the premier league clubs, not Josiah that is not even using the family name.

Good lucks to you Omeruo and show them your skill!

He has everything that is required for success at the Bridge. But, I foresee \"The happy One\" send him to the right back position mostly or the # 6 role occasionally.

Great lad, brilliant footballer, has all the potentials to become one of the best in his position some day. I trust Chelsea does have plans for him since they worked quite hard to secure his work permit, but I think he should be loaned to another team in England so he can have ample opportunity to mature, staying in Chelsea for now may just stifle his growth.. All I see is greatness..

No pressure being an Omeruo
by George Akpayen 28 July 2013, 20:43

He is one of three Omeruo brothers playing professional football at the moment. However, only very few football followers in Nigeria know that Sunshine Stars striker, Christian Josiah, is an Omeruo.

Josiah is brother to 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Kenneth Omeruo as well as to Lucky, who is on the books of Bayelsa United.

The striker, who opted to have Josiah printed on his jersey at Sunshine Stars instead of Omeruo, explained to supersport.com that the action is a deliberate one.

Josiah, on scored three goals for Sunshine Stars in the Glo Premier League, said not using Omeruo on his shirt is not a way to avoid getting attention.

He also believes that a lot of people are beginning to recognise him as a sibling of Kenneth Omeruo and he is under no pressure due to that.

On his Facebook page, the striker also bears Christian Josiah leaving out Omeruo.

\"Why should it affect me?\" Josiah responded in rhetoric when asked if he opted to bear his family's popular name to avoid pressure on himself.

\"Rather it should be a wake-up call because people will expect more from me. This is because I want to make a name for myself. Omeruo is already made.\"

But the former City Of David (COD) United striker wants to focus on his career at Sunshine Stars and hopes to make a success out of it.

While hoping to become a popular football figure soon, the striker recalled the task of juxtaposing his time as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and a professional footballer for Sunshine Stars in the town of Akure.

He acknowledged that he is at a big club with experienced players and is keen to play his way into the hearts of Sunshine Stars' faithful in order to be considered a cult hero.

\"It was not easy balancing my life as a youth corp member and as a professional football player. I served in Akure. But I thank God I did and I'm glad one part of it, that is the NYSC thing has come and gone. The memories will stay with me,\" Josiah, who majored in Accounting at the Kano State Polytechnic, told supersport.com.

\"Now I want to concentrate on my football career. Sunshine Stars is a big club with great players. I just hope and pray to God to be among the club's favourites. And to learn from the experienced players, coaches and management it has.\"

Sunshine Stars head coach, Fatai Amoo, said Josiah is a hard-working player and pointed out his aerial presence as his biggest asset.

\"Christian is fine footballer, who is ready to learn new things and he is always working hard and not afraid to try out new things. He is an asset to our team because he is brave and aerially strong,\" said Amoo, who was reportedly believed to have resigned his post as the club's head coach.

On Matchday 22 of the Premier League, Josiah showed flashes of his aerial presence by scoring twice to help Sunshine Stars to a 3-1 win over Kwara United in Akure.

\"It wasn't an easy game but God made it so easy. I am happy that I showed how strong I am in the air,\" said the striker.

Josiah is available for Sunshine Stars for their Matchday 23 against Sunshine Stars.

Stop exhibiting your illiteracy to the world. Sibling doesn't mean Josia is the younger one dullard.

It is very obvious facialy that Kenneth Omeruo is a young lad.
